To be honest, before I wrote this article, I thought bag charms, key chains are something that belong to early 2000s, because all I can think of is me hanging those little cute puffy charms on my schoolbags. But then, all of the sudden in the past few months, I keep seeing some GenZ interns at the office having bag charms on their tote bags, I mean a lot. I was shocked! I thought bag charms are outdated, but obviously they are not, and the more I looked into, the more I realised they are just everywhere!

Bag Charms: A Quick Look Back

The concept of embellishing bags is not new. Historically, charms have been a symbol of good fortune, spirituality, or self-expression.

As fashion evolved, these charms transitioned into decorative accessories, particularly attached to bags. In the 2000s, brands like Louis VuittonChanel, and Fendi turned bag charms into coveted items, offering luxury pieces that became as important as the bags themselves.

Why Bag Charms Are Making a Comeback?

The 2024 fashion scene is all about personalization, playfulness, and nostalgia. As fast fashion dominates, consumers are searching for unique ways to express their style, and bag charms have reemerged as the perfect solution—whether it’s adding a splash of fun, sophistication, or a touch of nostalgia to refresh an old handbag or personalize a new one.
Bag charms have become a go-to fashion statement once again.
Several luxury and high-street brands are spearheading this revival,. Miu Miu, Coach, and Balenciaga are among the names that have reintroduced bag charms into their collections, but with modern twists.
By blending nostalgia with contemporary fashion, luxury designers are offering charms that range from delicate pearls to quirky designs such as miniature handbags and bold, chunky chains

Commercial wise, brands have recognised an opportunity. EDITED recorded a 47 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of new handbag charms arriving online at US and UK luxury brands. It reported that 32 per cent of styles are now out of stock — consumer demand is going strong, says Marci, according to Vogue Business.
